As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to go to Hawai’i. I hate the cold, and I can’t remember ever really liking it, even as a child. Why oh why was I born in Michigan? Even more, why did I stay for so long? After the rough 2014 our family had and the fresh start we all feel we need at this point in our lives, we’ve decided that we are going to move to Hawai’i.
Fresh start in Hawai’i
We’ll all get a fresh start from everything.
I’ll get to live in a climate in which I’ll be super happy. Where it is always warm but not too warm, and I’ll still be with my family. Brandon gets to expand his business to work as remote support where he can have anyone as a client. Thaddeus gets a fresh start from being known as the trouble child in school. He also gets to get away from the other students who help influence his bad behavior. Xavier, well, he doesn’t need a fresh start per say, but he’ll get to start school in Hawai’i and have so many advantages and memories any child should get to experience.
Instead of waiting to move at the end of the year; we want to make sure that we have enough money saved up to help with the move and to make sure we will be able to survive the move since there is a decent price difference in living in Hawai’i over the mainland. We were going to wait until after Thaddeus finished 5th grade, so he didn’t miss any school, but the schools in Hawai’i are not as advanced as they are here and he won’t miss that much school since we’ll move during a semester break.
Over the next nine months, I’ll be posting all about Hawai’i and the island we will be moving to along with all the different things you need to know before moving there. Yes, we have lots and lots of research to do before the move, so we are ready when we arrive.
I hear living in Hawaii is EXPENSIVE…you’ll have to share with us how ordinary folks can enjoy the island life within a reasonable budget. Enjoy the experience!
Keep an eye out on my posts coming up. I’m going to be talking about Hawaii (expenses and all) and how we’re going to be able to do the move and live there.
Hawaii would be up there on my list. Very jealous of you! I went there a few times with my family when I was little. If I’m being more realistic, Boston, DC, or Chicago would be cities I’d like to move to … we lived near Chicago for 4 years when I was little, also.
WOW you’ve been around Liz! I liked Chicago when we were there visiting. Never been to Boston or DC though. Maybe one day.
Yes, I’ve heard Hawaii is expensive as well. Enlighten us, Shawn Ann! Can’t wait to hear all about it. How fun!
We’ve read that it is expensive there also, and that the pay isn’t all that great. However, just from a few curiosity looks I did about a job I found that their pay isn’t all that bad. Doing receivables for a company they are offering $14/hr with benefits. Around us you get anywhere from $12-$16/hr.
I love Hawaii. My husband and I spent two weeks there about 5 years ago. It is so beautiful. I will be anxious to see your posts about Hawaii. Congrats! I’d love to move out of Michigan to some place warmer.
We thought about going to the Florida Keys, but they also get cold down there in the winter, maybe not as cold as it is here in Michigan, but I want to get away from all the cold!
oh wow, congratulations and good luck!!
Hawaii and FRESH START seems like a really good match! Enjoy this great experience! Have fun!
I can’t wait to hear more. I watch moving to Hawaii on HGTV, or is it real estate, either way I’m interested!
Since we’ve decided on the move we’ve been watching Hawaii Life just to get a feel for housing prices and the locations. It’s a neat show.
I am totally jealous! Do you have extra room in your suitcases or boxes?
LOL we’ve had a few people ask us if they can come with us and to make sure we have a guest room.
Oh, it’s so nice, I envy you! If I had the chance to move anywhere in the world I would go some place warm, near the sea (or the ocean), build house big enough for me and my child and I would settle there and travel around the whole world… It’s so good to dream :) Thank you for the lovely post!
