I was given the opportunity to review a pre-released copy of JumpStart’s Pet Rescue for the Wii! After doing a review for JumpStart’s Online Educational Games, I jumped at the opportunity to review another one of their products.
Pet Rescue has been rated “Early Childhood” but the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board). Being aimed at kids ages 3-6, and as you may know my son just turned 4 back in July. Needless to say, when I showed him the game and said that it was HIS to play he was overjoyed!
Before I allowed him to play, I had to take a peek myself and see what it was all about and how easy it was to use (Thaddeus hasn’t played many video games).

Pet Rescue Fact: Pet Rescue is the first educational game on the Wii for the age group of 3-6
- JumpStart Pet Rescue immerses each child in a wildly imaginative and rewarding 3D learning environment that offers hours of exploration and adventure.
- As children travel through the different worlds, they play learning games to earn rewards. Children then earn storybooks that are read aloud to them.
- Children are given the freedom to express themselves by changing the way they look, dress & by decorating their house.
- Pet rescue and care are incorporated into the game storyline. Children can feed, groom, play with, and train their pets.
This was a very interesting review to do, to say the least. Thankfully I had my little guy, Thaddeus, to help out! First impressions of the game, we had mixed reviews. It looks like a really great game for children ages 3-6, but we found it a little hard to navigate with the normal Wii remote. After going through the different worlds and trying the areas out, it became a little easier to navigate, but Thaddeus still had a hard time trying to maneuver his way through the game. I think if we were to use a normal game controller (like we used to have when we were kids) it would make it a lot easier to play.
The best part of this game is the learning. There are all kinds of learning games and with various levels. Here are a few pictures from the game to give you a little incite on the game.
Thaddeus’ favorite part of the game was the My House section where you were able to make changes to your house. He also LOVED the Dressing Tent where you get to create your own player. Of course he also liked playing the different games and he especially liked the slide in the game (you’ll see that in the video).
My favorite part of Rescue Pets is the learning you get from it. There are several learning games, which are:
- Balloon Sorting
- Barnyard Fun
- Bug Catcher
- Bunny Fun
- Critter Creator
- Matching Duckies
- Matching Kites
- Matching Ladybugs
- Monkey Drop
- Present Search
- Retell a Story
- Sound Box
- Treasure Chest
Another part of Rescue Pets that I like is that you get to rescue animals and they follow you throughout the game!
