We’ve made it to Arizona! The trip here didn’t take long, especially since we are arriving here from the Hoover Dam. If you have ever been to the Grand Canyon, you’ll know that you’ve never seen anything so amazing before. If you haven’t been, then you need to schedule you a vacation to see it. You won’t be disappointed.
Road Trip
When we decided to make our trip back to the mainland a road trip we did it for a few reasons. The first and most important one was so that our kids could see places that most only ever get to see in movies. The second reason, both Brandon and I wanted to see several of the sites that we put on our route. The third, and final reason was that we knew we wouldn’t make another trip for a while, so we wanted to make the most of it. We also knew that there were several places they were on our must-see list. The Grand Canyon is one of them. A couple of the other sites were the Hoover Dam and the Meteor Crater. We wanted to see the Meteor Crater because Xavier loves everything about space and meteors and we knew he’d enjoy seeing a place where a meteor crashed on earth.
The Grand Canyon
I don’t think there was a spot that wasn’t amazing while driving through the Grand Canyon. You can’t imagine what you see before seeing it and pictures don’t do justice.
Trying to figure out just how far you are seeing is impossible. What looks like it is just a mile away could be 100 miles. What looks like it could be 1,000 feet done is more like 6,000!
Had it not been as cold when we visited, we probably would have spent a couple of days there enjoying the view. We will be heading back there again in the future. Not exactly sure when, but we will make it back to the Grand Canyon again one day.
Trip Suggestion
One thing I will suggest when visiting the Grand Canyon is to check the weather when planning your trip. We initially didn’t intend to take our road trip in early March. However, due to the sale of our property in Hawai’i, we had to move our trip up some. It was still a bit chilly throughout our entire trip, getting colder the closer we got to our final destination. We weren’t expecting it to be so cold in Arizona, even at the elevation of the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the proper gear to keep us warm during our visit. We were able to find some hats to wear, but we were still a bit cold due to the colder temperatures and wind.
