OK, so we’ve been in our new house for just over a month now and HOLY CRAP there is a lot of yard work here :crying As you can imagine, we aren’t used to having so much yard. With the trailer, we only had a small lot of land and it didn’t take very long to cut the grass or deal with flower beds, but here, that’s a whole other story!
This is just a small look at what our back yard was starting to look like at the flower beds.

The Jungle
And this was after about an hour and a half of pulling weeds and cutting trees.
These pictures were from about 2 weeks ago and since then I’ve been working on other parts of the yard to get rid of the “Jungle” in those areas. I’d have to say there are about 15-20 rose bushes within our backyard and after removing all the weeds and trees that I’ve removed so far, we are going to have a lot of bare spots to fill. We’re still deciding (well, I’m still deciding) whether we are going to fill most of the area with grass and have just ONE flower garden area or have a couple throughout the backyard.
On a good note, the front yard is looking great. Yesterday, Brandon cut the gras and edged the front yard and it looks all pretty now
Still a lot of work to do though before it’s done.

Wanted to let you know we have a fairly small yard and yesterday it took John almost 2 hours to mow, edge, sweep, and weed and do all that. About a month ago we pulled out some dead bushes in the front yard and weeded the front bed in front of our porch and that took 3 hours to do and both John and I worked on it. Having a house is a lot of work. Around here if we don’t mow the grass, pick up weeds. and clean the gutters or if we keep trash in yard the homeowners association can come by and fine us. Grover (John’s/Brandon’s dad) bought a trailer in Winchester and he has a bigger yard then we do and he said it takes him about 2/12-3 hours to mow his grass and clean out the flower beds around his trailer. He will get fined as well if he doesn’t do it. The yard work for John is one thing that makes me want to sell this house and go live in a town house with a smaller yard. The only reason John does the yard work is because he doesn’t want to be fined. You might want to see the deed to your house or see the homeowners association in your neighborhood for they have rules and regulations about what you can and can’t do to your yard. We technically can’t have sheds swing sets and we can’t put up a fence or have an antenna on top of the roof any bigger or taller then a certain size or height. We have two sheds and a swing set and got it before the homeowners association formed last year. I think making one bed will be hard enough to keep up with then several and if you are not the type to do yard work one is best if it will look good. I am not a yard working person so I don’t even like what little we have. Good Luck!
We would have never considered moving into a place with a homeowners association. And there’s no fear of one ever forming in this neighborhood.
Our yard is about 1/3 of an acre, and it keeps us busy. I told Shawn Ann I want to put a pool in the back, a large shed, and large sandbox, and whatever else I can stick back there to make the lawn portion smaller. :)
Isn’t home ownership so much fun! We live on 2 acres out in the country and yard work is a pita, that is for sure :)
I have a big yard. But sheesh that reallly is a jungle out there!
