With the new “Deal” that the President has put together to “Save” the auto industry, the union workers will understand what it’s like to make a normal pay. In the article, UAW sacrifices look to some like surrender, by MSN, the Union looks like it is going to finally have to give in and cut the pay and benefits of the union workers. All I have to say to that is it’s about damn time! I’m tired of these overpaid, crybabies getting paid $30+ an hour to stand around and do NOTHING. That’s right, you guys stand around and do nothing. You read papers and magazines while you wait for your machines to finish doing their jobs. You have been told NOT to do anyone elses job because it’s NOT your job. Now YOU will know what it’s like to make little money. Hopefully now they’ll actually make you work for that money.
I’m tired of hearing/reading these stupid Union workers writing in and calling in saying, “If it weren’t for the Union, the regular workers wouldn’t be making the pay they make and getting the benefits they get.” Well, let me tell you how it really is. I get the pay I get because I DO MY JOB. I don’t get great benefits like the Union does. I get what my employer offers me or I get NOTHING. I PAY for my insurance. I don’t get it for free. I don’t have to worry about not being fired from my job because I have a union contract. If I don’t do my job, I lose my job. Simple as that. You don’t do your job, who gives a shit, you continue to work because you can’t be fired because you’ll file a grievance and force your employer to keep you on.
I like this quote the best from the article:
But the terms of that loan also insist that the wages and benefits for union workers be lowered to “equal” the average of nonunion workers, specifically, those at the U.S. plants of Nissan, Toyota and Honda.
Here’s another great quote:
‘Keep Americans working’
In a statement, UAW president Ron Gettelfinger said the loan “will keep the doors of America’s factories open, keep Americans working and prevent the devastating economic consequences for millions of Americans.”But, he noted, the union was disappointed that Bush “added unfair conditions singling out workers.”
Why? Because it’s about damn time the workers are being singled out. It’s partly their fault that the Big 3 are going under. Get rid of the union and get rid of the money hungry CEO’s and any other 3 letter management that get paid millions of dollars to DO NOTHING. That’ll save the companies MILLIONS of dollars and they wouldn’t need my tax paying dollars to bail them out! I’m all for letting them go bankrupt. Yeah, I may lose my job and my husband may lose his, but at least then these companies will realize that they need to really do something to survive and if that means closing lots of plants and cutting salaries and benefits then so be it!
