While people are familiar with our country’s revolutionary fathers such as Paul Revere, William Dawes, Samuel Adams, the familiarity usually stops with the mentioning of their name and likely an association with a poem, brewery, or name plate on a school. However there is so much more behind the names of people like these, and this book, The Revolutionary Paul Revere, goes into great detail to introduce you to the man immortalized by the words “one if by land, two if by sea”.

Instead of just jumping into the most famed actions by Paul Revere, the author starts the story from the beginning with the chapter “Arrivals” which outlines John Winthrop’s move to the colonies, who was influential in the famed ride of Paul Revere. From there we learn various aspects of Revere’s life, including his time as a soldier, his business practices, protests, and family life, even touching on his involvement in Freemasonry. The chapters build up to ride of April 1775 and go even further with several more chapters so that the reader isn’t left unfulfilled after the climax.

For a fan of history, especially American Revolutionary and Civil War history like myself, this is one of those “must have” books. I wasn’t very familiar with Revere until I had the chance to read this book, and never knew what I was missing out on.
