I love pasta, it’s one of those foods that contributed to me being “twice” the man that I am. Even though we have changed to eating better here at home I still treat us to an indulgence every once in a while. I’ve been using whole wheat pasta for a while, and to be quite honest, the taste of whole wheat spaghetti doesn’t make for a “great” meal. So when we were asked to review the spaghetti style noodles from Ronzoni Smart Taste, I figured what do we have to lose!
It has the smooth texture you’d expect from your basic pasta and not the grainy feel from whole wheat style. And once again, it has a color to it that my little one won’t push away calling it “dirty”. I decided to make a basic spaghetti using my home made sauce and meatballs for dinner to test out these new noodles. While it has been said that my sauce can make anything taste good (well, it should be said), it wasn’t even necessary. The noodles were great “al dente” on their own (yes, I taste everything as I cook it).
Needless to say, with sauce and meatballs the Ronzoni Smart Taste noodles made for a great meal. My son gobbled his up, I had to fight off the urge for a second helping, and Shawn Ann was happy to take whatever was left with her to work for lunch the next day. And even though it was nice to have a great tasting pasta for my sauce again, the nutritional profile is impressive. With 6 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber per a 180 calorie serving, you get more of the good stuff from this pasta than your plain Jane bleached stuff, and a much better taste than whole grain style. I’d give it two thumbs up, but I’m too busy digging into a plate of leftovers.

I have boxes and boxes of this in my pantry because I got it free with coupons, and I totally agree with you! It doesn’t taste “whole wheat” at all, it tastes just like regular old pasta. I love that it is high in fiber also. Yummy!

I love this pasta, and my family never noticed the switch I pulled on them about six months ago. We have it at least twice a month, and I feel good knowing it’s better for us! :)
