About PicPocket Books
PicPocket Books, a custom application software development company dedicated to bringing children’s books to life on the iPhone, today introduced four new titles for PicPocket Books, making PicPocket Books the largest publisher of children’s picture book applications for the iPhone or iPod Touch.
About the books
Some of the current PicPocket Books titles that are available on the Apple iTunes App Store include:
- My Friend Isabelle by Eliza Woloson, illustrated by Bryan Gough
- Cucumber Soup by Vickie Leigh Krudwig, Illustrated by Craig McFarland Brown
- Tire Mountain by Andrea Cheng, illustrated by Ken Condon
- Sleeping Beauty illustrated by by Martina Müller
- A My Name is Andrew, by Mary McManus Burke, illustrated by Donna Ingemanson; and
- 8 Big Stuff Books by Robert Gould and Eugene Epstein, including titles such as Dinosaurs,
- Big Rigs, Monster Trucks, Sea Creatures and Rescue Vehicles
Unlike other iPhone picture book applications, you control when to turn the page on PicPocket Books and while the story is reading, the words to the story are highlighted to help your child know where they are in the book.

I wasn’t sure what to think when I was first contacted about reviewing PicPocket Books, mainly because Thaddeus isn’t old enough to read just yet. I received complementary stories for review just in time for our camping trip last month. I say just in time because this gave us one extra “toy” for Thaddeus during our weekend away from most technology. We were given the opportunity to review Tire Mountain, Then it Rained, Huggybird and the Dreambox, and The Crystal Mountain.
The first night camping, I allowed Thaddeus to “read” his first book. He wasn’t sure what to think at first because I normally don’t like him playing with my iPhone (since it’s our only cell phone and very expensive) but we sat together while he read his first story, Huggybird and the Dreambox, which he ended up really enjoying because Huggybird was a pirate in part of the story
.
I love that the books can be auto played and highlight the words as they are read. The fact that the words are highlighted as they are said is awesome because it helps your child see and hear the word, which to me is the best way to learn how to read. Once the page is finished being read, you just swipe the screen to flip pages and the book begins the next page. The colors of the images in the books are very vivid!
Disclosure: I would like to thank Lynette from PicPocket Books for providing me with the four complementary books for the purpose of this review. All opinions are that of my own.
