OK, I’m sure many of you have seen the new Volkswagen commercials out right now featuring their so called game “Punch Dub”. Well, let me tell you, these commercials are really fricken annoying! You don’t take a game that’s been around for, oh, I don’t know, 40 years or so and completely change it. The game is called Slug Bug or Punch Buggy as some will say. It ONLY works with the VW Bug, NOT all of the VW cars.
If you are going to try to bring a game back, GET IT RIGHT! Fire your stupid marketing people that thought it would be cool to “modernize” the game and get ones that know how the damn game goes. You only call Slug Bug on Beetles (new or old) and you say “Slug Bug” and the color of the Beetle while punching the person in the arm. Not just saying the color of any VW and punching the person. If you call Slug Bug and it is NOT a Beetle, then the person get’s to punch you twice for being wrong! THAT IS IT! How in the world these idiots got a game that simple completely wrong is beyond me and why they tried to change it is just plain stupid!

LMFAO! I was going to blog this the other day and then forgot. I totally agree and the commercials are SO stupid! How does the Volkswagon company get it’s own game wrong? You are right…fire those marketing people, they are idiots.

I always grew up saying “Punch Buggy” so I guess it is different for everyone. But at least it had the word “bug” in it. What is a dub?

I am so glad that other people are irritated by these new VW commercials. It is SLUG BUG you idiots! “You’re Fired” to quote the Donald ;-)
LOL that’s too funny!
Rhea, I said last night that I had to blog about it because it was annoying me.
Lee, I think dub is the W, their commercials used to always say V-Dub, which was pretty dumb too! I read on another site that people on the east cost called it Punch Buggy, but at least it’s the same game.
ROFL Wendi!
I was from Chicago so who knows. My husband is from Upstate New York and also says Punch Bug.

I am so glad someone else agrees. I hate what they are doing. Why are they trying to change something that has been around so many years? Are they incapable of writing a new ad campaign or just too lazy too?

I know exactly what you mean. My whole childhood was full of slug bug!

THANK YOU!!! These commercials are driving me nuts for exactly the same reason! I especially love the commercial where some stupid new VW is driving really fast and people are puching each other saying “blue one!” and the other person says “where”? Their response wouldn’t be “where?” it would be “what the heck are you talking about, and why did you just punch me?” They’re trying to make it seem like their new ridiculous game has already caught on, which clearly it hasn’t. The game is SLUG BUG (or apparently punch buggy) and you say “slug bug orange” or “slug bug green” and then punch the other person. No one would know what on earth you were talking about if you punched them when you saw some random VW vehicle and said “blue one!” So freaking annoying!
I have been so annoyed by this ridiculous attempt to insight enthusiasm for the VW brand by piggy backing on this modern excuse for unnecessary violence that I actually googled it. I am relieved that others are equally dissatisfied by the overwhelmingly obvious idiocy of this marketing campaign. We should all just turn off our tvs. But in the mean time, I am considering punching anyone who is swayed by it into striking someone at the sight of “any” VW. WACK! “Get a life.”
