I would like to introduce you to a new book, I’m Up in a Tree by Mark Alden Johnson.

About I’m Up in a Tree

I'm Up in a TreeClimbing a tree sounded like a great idea, but it turns out that getting down is much harder than climbing up! Perched on a branch high up in a tree, a young boy must decide whether to find a way to the ground by himself or wait for his dad. All kinds of animals, from bees to birds to cats, offer him advice on how to get down (Jump! Fly! Climb!), but it’s up to him to figure out if their advice is worth taking.

Told in a lyrical rhyming style and charmingly illustrated by the author, I’m Up in a Tree is a book for kids and their parents to enjoy together.

My Take on it

I’m Up in a Tree was a cute book. I read the story to my little boy after we came in from playing in the snow. We had some hot cocoa and sat in my easy chair so he could look at the pictures as I read the story.

It’s about a little boy who, as the title says, is up in a tree. The problem is that he is stuck there because he got too scared to climb back down. While up in the tree, he has conversations with all manner of critters who try to help or persuade him down. But they don’t realize that a little boy can’t do what they do, and he is afraid that if he doesn’t get down before his dad gets home that he’ll be in trouble for getting stuck up there. So he’s stuck with a decision to make, try to get down and risk getting hurt, or wait for his dad and risk getting in trouble.

With a rhyming style that is customary for many children’s books, and some cleverly illustrated pages, this was a fun book for me and my son to enjoy while warming up with our hot cocoa and let us spend a little more quality time together before starting on our daily chores.
