Greenfield Village trip

On Saturday, we took a trip to Greenfield Village, here in Michigan.  For those of you not familiar with Greenfield Village, it’s part of the Henry Ford Museum.  From their website:

Entering Greenfield Village is like stepping into an 80-acre time machine. It takes you back to the sights, sounds and sensations of America’s past. There are 83 authentic, historic structures, from Noah Webster’s home, where he wrote the first American dictionary, to Thomas Edison’s Menlo Park laboratory, to the courthouse where Abraham Lincoln practiced law. The buildings and the things to see are only the beginning. There’s the fun stuff, too. In Greenfield Village, you can ride in a genuine Model T or “pull” glass with world-class artisans; you can watch 1867 baseball or ride a train with a 19th-century steam engine. It’s a place where you can choose your lunch from an 1850s menu or spend a quiet moment pondering the home and workshop where the Wright brothers invented the airplane. Greenfield Village is a celebration of people — people whose unbridled optimism came to define modern-day America.

Basically, if you are a history person or love seeing how things were done back in the day, this is the place to go!  You get to ride in the Model T, watch baseball the way it was when it started, ride a train (sometimes even Thomas the Tank Engine), check out historic buildings (even the way they looked back when the famous people lived in them).  It’s just a great place to visit.

Anyway, you can check out some of the pictures from our trip by going to here and see them all.

If you are in the area, whether visiting or you live here, I would suggest this as a place to go. If you have a few days to spare, I would make it a couple day trip to make it through the entire place and spending time at each place.  It’s also great to go to at different times of the year to see how different things are.  During certain times you will see the baseball games, gardening going on, enactments of different things.

I first went there on a class trip and then again on vacation with my family. when I got married my husband and I went there on vacation too. They suggestion that you should spend one day in the museum and one day in the Village but honestly I could spend 2 days in the museum and not see everything!
