What a horrible thing they could even think about doing. I can’t see how they don’t have enough money to keep it open. There are millions of visitors each and every year.
Some of the city council members don’t want to give any more money to the Detroit Zoo to keep it running because they don’t like the fact that they don’t get any of the revenue that is brought in. Why should they? All the revenue has to go towards paying the employee’s and the upkeep of all the animals.
If it’s not bad enough that Detroit doesn’t care about how they look unless there is a Superbowl there, now they want to take away the only good attraction in the area. We have to remember that the Detroit Zoo is NOT in Detroit, but in Royal Oak, so people are not even visiting Detroit when they visit the Zoo. Detroit has already lost everything good in it, now they want to take the only FAMILY thing from all of us!
I say let someone else take over the Zoo, someone who actually gives a shit about the people who want to come to a place where they don’t have to worry about any problems, even if it is only for a few hours.
I really would hate for my son to grow up never being able to visit the Detroit Zoo again…and actually remember it. He’s only gotten to go once and he was only 3 months old.
