Let me start by saying that I do not have problems talking to my husband about money, but I think it’s because I’m the one who handles all of the money in the household, but I can definitely see how this book can help other women out there that just don’t quite know where to start. There are spots throughout the book for you to fill out some information, whether it be what thoughts come to mind when you hear the word money, to asking if you know where your money is invested. There is also a quiz to fill out that will tell you if you really do know about your personal financial situation, in other words, how well you know your finances, goals, etc. There are also chapters that talk about saving wisely for your financial goals, how to invest your money so it works for you, and how to sustain your financial plan. It gets even better, there is a section of commonly asked questions. Some of these questions include:
- How can I tell if a financial adviser is any good?
- I’ve just met the most wonderful person, but my financial past is very ugly. When do I get financially naked, and how exactly do I tell this incredible person about my financial history?
- My boyfriend/girlfriend likes to “live large” but I’m struggling to keep up. What should I do?
- We’re moving in together and are seriously committed to our future as a couple. Should we combine bank accounts?
I think this book is a must have for all couples, even if you can talk about money openly with each other. Even though you can talk to each other, there may still be things that the other doesn’t know, not because you are not disclosing this information but because you may not realize the other person doesn’t know and hasn’t thought to ask.
